Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2015: Akira

The minute I saw Akira’s couture pieces teamed with ruby red Adidas sneakers I was hooked – this was my kind of runway! The Akira runway on Day 5 at TPFF2015 was Akira Isogawa’s WA debut where he showcased his latest Spring/Summer designs.

The runway started with flower laden models walking in contemporary pieces with a clear Japanese influence. The runway started with pieces in bright jewel tones and of course those insanely cool red high top sneakers. The collection then progressed into pieces accentuated with cream and gold tones and the red high tops were swapped in favour of sparkly white tennis shoes.

Akira’s runway show is best described as Japanese couture mixed with street style. I loved the mix of jewel tones, oversized layering and bright embellishment and the street style injection of sneakers rather than heels. It was a breathtaking show.

The best part? (Ok, apart from the sneakers?) The humbleness of designer Akira Isogawa when met with resounding applause at the end of the show.

Big mention to Robert Duncan (the man behind the amazing images above!) I was too entranced by Akira’s designs that my camera lay most of the runway forgotten in my lap (whoops!)
