JB Date Night: Insurgent

This is the first post in a new series called JB Date Night. JB Date Night is all about things that we (my husband and I) like doing together – don’t freak out, it’s not going to be posts full of mush and all things lovey dovey! Rather we’ll be reviewing and talking about movies, places to eat, events in Perth etc etc in our “naturally” humerous and unbiased way. Unlike other Running in Chanel posts JB Date Night is about ways to have fun as a couple and therefore these posts will be written by both JBs (the wifey & the hubby) so that it appeals to both males and females, as we feel both perspectives can be lacking in most blogs. (After all if you spend your life savings on a choc top and two movie tickets you want to know that your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife will like it too right?)

So to kick off the first in what will be numerous Date Nights to follow is our review of the newly released movie Insurgent.

First off if you have yet to see Divergent (the first movie in the trilogy series) one: why?! and two: make sure you do before going to see Insurgent, otherwise your brain will be more scrambled than eggs trying to follow the plot line (there are already enough twists in the movie to keep those “in the know” guessing).

In Insurgent we follow on from where Divergent finished – after the assault on Abnegation, Tris Prior and Four are on the run from Jeanine and Erudite and hiding out among the Amity. Meanwhile Jeanine unearths an artefact left by the original city founders. Insurgent sees Jeanine hunt down divergents (those that don’t belong to a single faction) and tries every means necessary to find the message hidden in the artifact, while Tris and Four try to fight Jeanine’s hostile takeover of the city and stay alive. Dun dun duuuuun!

Obviously we could tell you all the best bits but that would take all the fun out of it. So what do you need to know? There is plenty of action, gun fights and (of course with movies that were originally teen novels) a little somethin’ somethin’ in the looooove department between Tris and Four. And as previously mentioned there are enough plot twists to keep you on the edge of your seat. If you have seen the first movie Divergent then Insurgent is a must! Haven’t been absorbed into the Divergent world yet? If you are a fan of the Hunger Games series then the Divergent series will also float your boat! (Obviously, just make sure to watch the first movie before Insurgent!)

Best actor/actress: Shailene Woodley is hypnotic in her role as Tris especially when she is under the truth serum in Candor.
Best scene: Tris trying to crack the artefact is a mind trip (that’s all we will tell you…)
Number one reason to go watch Insurgent: while the first movie in the series (Divergent) was the best one yet, Insurgent is still entertaining and with a cast that includes Kate Winslet as the creepy Jeanine you know it will be enjoyable.
Stars out of 5: 4 ****

So do yourself a favour, empty out the piggy bank and head down to your local cinema to see Insurgent before it closes. Want to especially woo or impress your loved one? Go see it in Event Cinema’s Gold Class like we did – gun fights, lush leather seats and fresh, hot churros? Definitely worth it – sugar high and all!
